LEMR can link your EMR to your diagnostic testing software. See if your EMR is a Supported EMR System on our Wiki.
Before you begin, ensure the Medikro Spirometer device is properly connected to the computer.
Please click here for troubleshooting information if the green light does not appear on the device.
1. Start Medikro Spirometry from the desktop or Start menu.
2. When the Medikro interface loads, it may ask you to sign in. By default this is simply logging who uses the program. You can enter any name in this field.
It is possible to remove the sign in requirement by following the support article on our Wiki.
3. Select a person to continue. You may search for an existing person or create a new person.
Type in a name in the search field.
Click on a person to view their profile.
Proceed to start a new study.
Click the New person button in the lower-left corner.
Enter in the patient's details. The Personal ID should be a unique number that identifies the patient. If possible, it would be good to use the same patient number used in your EMR system. Press the Save button in the lower-right corner to save your changes.
Proceed to start a new study.
4. Press the New study button in the lower-left to create a new study.
5. Select Diagnostic spirometry as the study type if prompted. Depending on how Medikro Spirometry Software was installed, this may not appear.
6. The patient's details will now be displayed. Be sure to update any details such as height, weight, prediction model and smoking info.
For the prediction model, we recommend using any beginning with GLI2012. Select the GLI2012 prediction model that most closely matches the patient's genetics.
7. Press the Save button in the lower-right to save the new details.
After updating the information in the Medikro Persons and Studies window (as above), always ensure you click the save button at the lower right side of that window.
Failure to do so before closing the test will mean that data will be missing from the report or the report may not be created at all.
8. Press the Procceed to measurements and results button in the lower-left to open the testing window.
9. The Measurements and Results window will now open. Patient details will be shown on the left side and the test window will be shown on the right side.
10. Check and enter a new calibration code if required. More information about this can be found here: https://wiki.lemr.com/en/support/technical-support/medikro-calibration-codes
Note: If the buttons to start a spirometry test are not displayed, this may mean that the spirometer is not properly connected to the computer or is not fully detected.
Try reconnecting the spirometer; this guide may be useful for Medikro Spirometer connection issues.
11. Ensure that Pre is selected and then click on the shark fin button to start a Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) test.
Important: DO NOT USE Measure menu > Start at the top of the window to perform a test as this will likely result in missing measurement and report data at the end of testing!
12. You are given 60 seconds to perform the spirometry test. Click Stop when the test has been completed.
Ensure the mouthpiece has been removed from the patient's mouth before clicking stop; if the flow reading has not gone back to zero (no air movement), the test result may not be measured!
The National Asthma Council has a great video to demonstrate how a patient performs a Spirometry test here.
Click here for information about the use of the Medikro mouthpiece and pressure tube.
Also, if you are experiencing inverted readings, click here for troubleshooting information.
13. If the test was good, click Yes to keep it.
14. Repeat this at least 3 times to meet the reproducibility requirements.
Red text = 2 best tests do not meet the requirements for FVC, FEV1 and/or PEF
Black text = 2 best tests meet the requirements for FVC, FEV1 and/or PEF
Blue squares = number of pre tests done
Red squares = number of post tests done
15. Click on Post then click on the shark fin button to start an expiratory flow test.
16. Perform at least 3 Spirometry tests in the same manner as the pre tests.
17. Click the Report button then either click the Print button or go to Study then Save to PDF file. You will have to manually put this report into the patient's record in your EMR system.
When exporting a PDF, first go to the Show Report button (looks like 3 pieces of paper) so that you are viewing the final report. Then go to Study then Save to PDF file… The exported PDF will show the full report data.
18. Click the black square with the white X in it (close study) button at the top right corner and wait a moment whil the study is saved.
19. After the report has processed, click the close button on the Medikro Persons and Studies window on the left side of the screen.
