When starting a test from the patient file in Best Practice via the Utilities menu then Blood Pressure/Electrocardiogram/Spirometry menu item, you may receive the following error:

An error has occurred in Bp Premier.
The details have been recorded in the error log file.
If the program does not perform normally following this error, or if the error recurs, you should contact General Products support at support@bpsoftware.net or by telephone at 1300 401 111.

Error:
Severity: 0
Description: Unable to retreive height details. Input string was not in a correct format.
Sub-system: BPDevice
Function: NEWTEST
FError: 258 - Invalid Param

This specific error is due to the patient’s height and/or weight data stored in the BP Database containing data other than a number, or the number may more than one decimal point.

The great news is that the workaround is simple; check the patient’s height and weight data (in the observations area of the patient’s file) and edit the values for any that appear invalid.

For example: If the height value is entered as any of the following invalid values:

175.2.
175.2cm
1.75m

Then adjust it to be simply:

175.2

Note: The assumed units for patient height is in centimetres (cm).

The same thing can occur for weight; if the values are entered as any of the following invalid values:

80.4.
80.4kg

Enter the value simply as:

80.4

Note: The assumed units for patient weight is in kilograms (kg).

You should then be able to start the test perfectly fine! The key to that error message was the part that states: “Unable to retrieve height details. Input string was not in a correct format”.

This is because BP was expecting a decimal number, though got something else. Decimal numbers only have one decimal point and no text or other characters that are not part of a normal number.
