When starting a test in Office Medic from LEMR or any other integration application for Office Medic, the error message "Cannot open command file!" or some other error about the command.txt file may be displayed. It is usually caused by Office Medic's file directory path pointing to the wrong location or a corruption in the command.txt file.
ERROR
Cannot open command file!
For Office Medic version 6 and above:
1. From the main window of Office Medic, navigate to Options > General…
2. In General Options, in the sections File Directory and Image File Directory, ensure that they point to the correct location of the users' Documents (My Documents) directory then click OK. The problem should be solved for that user. For the Image File Directory, ensure you leave the \Diagnostic Test Data\Image Files part at the end as per the screenshot below.
Note: The correct path to the user's Documents (My Documents) directory can be found in Windows File Explorer as follows:
1. Open File Explorer
2. Right click on Documents then click Properties
3. Click on the Location tab then copy the path as shown in the screenshot below. Click Cancel when done to ensure nothing is accidentally relocated. Do not change this location unless you know what you are doing. This path can be used in the
For all versions of Office Medic in the event that there is a problem with the command.txt file:
1. Open the user's Documents (My Documents) folder.
2. Open the Diagnostic Test Data folder.
3. Check if there is a command.txt file in there. If there is, try opening it. If successfully able to open it, try editing and saving the file. If successful, try deleting the file. If all of these steps work, try performing the Office Medic test again to see if it works. Any issues with any of these steps may need to be investigated further by your IT person or LEMR Support.
