If you are having issues connecting to your AMEDTEC Holter-RR 24-Hour ABPM or Welch Allyn ABPM 7100 device, if you check on the driver in the Device Manager and see “PL2303TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER”, this article applies to you.
Windows 11 attempts to install a new driver from Windows Update for the AMEDTEC ABPM's USB-to-Serial cable that does not allow communication on Windows 11. After deleting the driver in Device Manager and installing the old version, the cable and ABPM device will communicate again. However, next time a Windows Update runs the new driver will be installed again which will cause the cable to stop functioning.
The best solution is to buy a new Windows 11 compatible data cable. This new cable works with the Amedtec Holter-RR 24-Hour ABPM device as well as the Welch Allyn ABPM 7100 device. Please contact us for more information and a price!
Important Note: The latency timer setting for the new cable's Windows driver must be set to 2ms. On the occasional Windows 11 PC the default setting may be 16ms. If the driver that automatically installs for this new cable doesn't appear to work, and you have set the correct COM port number in the ABPM software, please check out this article to set the latency timer to the proper setting: https://wiki.lemr.com/en/support/technical-support/ftdi-latency
We can fix this for you!

Alternatively, the erroneous driver can be removed then a utility can be run to prevent Windows Update from installing the incorrect driver. This issue will reappear from time to time as Microsoft release a new driver update; the same procedure will need to be performed each time.
1. Remove the device titled “PL2303TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER…” from Windows Device Manager - Right click on the device and choose Uninstall device.
Be sure to tick the Delete the driver software for this device box before clicking Uninstall.
The new driver will be removed and an older (working) driver for the device will be installed in its place.
2. Click on the Scan for hardware changes button in device manager. A Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port device will now be there.
Note: If a driver is not found, you can download a driver from here: https://github.com/theAmberLion/Prolific
Steps:
1. Download PL2303_Prolific_v3.8.38.2.cab - For convenience, a version of this can be downloaded in ZIP here (02/10/2025): /pl2303_prolific_v3.8.38.2.zip
2. Extract the CAB or ZIP file (CAB files will need to be extracted with WinRAR or 7zip)
3. Right-click the device without a driver in the Device Manager and choose Update Driver
4. Choose Browse my computer for drivers, then choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
5. Click on Have Disk… then choose the directory where the files had been extracted from step 2
6. Click Next and Finish
3. Download the Windows Update Show/Hide Tool from the following link:

No need to worry that it refers to Windows 10 and not Windows 11; this tool still works fine for this purpose
In the event that the Microsoft website moves or removes the download, the tool can also be found here (downloaded 4/8/2022): /wushowhide.diagcab
4. Run the wushowhide.diagcab file downloaded in step 2 and answer Yes to the UAC elevation prompt if it appears.
5. Click on the Next button to begin searching for updates.
6. Click on the Hide updates tile.
7. Tick any item(s) in the list that starts with Prolific - Ports then click on the Next button.
8. Follow the remaining prompts and close the troubleshooter - the new broken driver should not return!
